Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has been a crucial part of the unbeaten streak the Indian cricket team has maintained throughout the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. In situations where India’s top order appeared shaky, Kohli stepped up and delivered critical performances, nearing a significant personal milestone in the process. With India virtually assured of a place in the World Cup semifinals, fans are eager to see Kohli surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record of ODI centuries.

Tendulkar, often referred to as the “Master Blaster,” amassed 49 ODI centuries during his illustrious career and recorded a total of 100 international centuries across all formats. Currently, Virat Kohli has scored 48 ODI centuries, putting him on the brink of matching Tendulkar’s extraordinary record.

In fact, the 34-year-old had an opportunity to reach the coveted milestone of 49 ODI centuries, thus equaling Tendulkar’s record, against New Zealand in Dharamsala. However, Kohli was dismissed on 95, narrowly missing out on the achievement. Reflecting on his remarkable journey, Kohli expressed his astonishment at the success he has achieved during his 12-year career.

“When it comes to cricket, I had never imagined achieving all of this. My career and the blessings I’ve received from the Almighty have been beyond my wildest dreams,” Virat Kohli shared with Star Sports.

“I had always dreamed of reaching this level, but I had never anticipated that things would unfold in such a precise manner. Nobody can plan such milestones; they are the result of your journey and the way life unfolds before you. I never thought I’d score so many centuries and accumulate so many runs over these 12 years,” he added.

India has won all six of its World Cup matches so far, and under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the team will next face Sri Lanka in Mumbai. This upcoming encounter presents another opportunity for Virat Kohli to equal Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries, facing a Sri Lankan team against which Kohli has scored more centuries than against any other team in international cricket.
