Team India head coach Rahul Dravid is expected to conclude his tenure with the men’s cricket team after the ICC World Cup 2023. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to discuss with Dravid the extension of his contract as head coach of the team. The Indian team is performing exceptionally well in the ongoing World Cup and has secured a spot in the semi-finals.
The hosts are the only undefeated team in the tournament, having won all seven of their matches. They will be hoping to end their decade-long ICC trophy drought. Rahul Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the Indian team in 2021. He signed a two-year contract for the high-profile position. However, a report from Telegraph India suggests that the 50-year-old may not be interested in continuing in the role.

“The focus has thus been on the World Cup. Dravid and (BCCI secretary) Jay Shah’s meetings in the lead-up to the World Cup have hinged on the team’s performance and what needs to be done to win the trophy. Any discussion on his role will take place only after the tournament ends,” a source told The Telegraph.
“Dravid is extremely popular with the team for his amicable nature and technical acumen. His ability to communicate clearly with the players and provide clarity in their roles is commendable. His chemistry with Rohit is great and that bodes well for the team. The BCCI will also have to consider these things,” the source maintained.
Rahul Dravid was reluctant to take on the role, citing family reasons. However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly convinced him to accept the position. Dravid had worked as the chief of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), which allowed him to spend time with his family.

During Dravid’s tenure, Team India failed to reach the final of the Asia Cup in 2022. They also suffered losses in the T20 World Cup 2022 and the World Test Championship 2023 final. However, they became the top-ranked team in all three formats of the game. The BCCI is yet to decide on Dravid’s future as India’s head coach. However, he will likely step down after the World Cup 2023. The BCCI will then have to find a suitable replacement for the role.
