In a lighthearted moment during the England-Netherlands clash at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, England all-rounder Chris Woakes took a cheeky dig at the controversial dismissal of Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews in the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka match on November 6.
Angelo Mathews became the first player in history to be dismissed ‘timed out’ in his international career when he failed to reach the crease within the two-minute time limit after requesting a new helmet due to equipment failure. The dismissal sparked controversy, with Mathews expressing his frustration at the decision and criticizing the Bangladesh team.

In a similar situation during the England-Netherlands game, Woakes walked out to bat with a helmet issue. However, unlike Mathews, Woakes immediately rushed to the umpire to inform him of the problem, poking fun at the earlier incident and the strict enforcement of the time limit.

Despite the lighthearted moment, the match itself was a serious affair, with England winning the toss and electing to bat first. Dawid Malan and Ben Stokes both scored centuries to help England post a massive total of 337 runs.

While both England and the Netherlands were already eliminated from the World Cup, the game was still important for both teams as it could determine their qualification for the Champions Trophy.
