Australia’s dynamic all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, offered high praise for the Indian pace attack, singling out Mohammed Shami for particular commendation. Maxwell lauded Shami’s impeccable seam position and his skill in generating late outswingers, highlighting the challenges he poses for batsmen. Shami, in scintillating form during the World Cup, has claimed an impressive 16 wickets in just four matches, making a significant impact on the team after missing the initial games.
Describing Shami’s seam as “the straightest thing in the world,” Glenn Maxwell humorously suggested that even a carpenter would envy such precision. Emphasizing Shami’s effectiveness with the new ball, Maxwell acknowledged the well-known prowess of Jasprit Bumrah and highlighted Mohammed Siraj as a potential target for batsmen due to his wicket-taking abilities.

“Mohammed Shami’s seam is the straightest thing in the world. The carpenter would love to get a straight angle. Shami is too good with the new ball. We know how good Bumrah is and Siraj is a wicket-taker so he might be the guy, one can try and taken on. But his late outswing is so difficult to face,” remarked Glenn Maxwell on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.
As the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 unfolds, teams are engaged in fierce competition, with players striving to lead in the Most Runs and Most Wickets charts. The Indian bowling attack has emerged as a formidable force, consistently dismantling opposition teams, except for Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Maxwell also shared insights into countering the Indian bowling attack, advising a proactive approach against the new ball. He suggested that teams should aim to scuff the ball early, play attacking shots, and not succumb to a defensive strategy, particularly during the powerplay.
According to Maxwell, teams that adopt a defensive approach in the initial overs against India often find themselves vulnerable, allowing the Indian bowlers to regain control of the game.

“I think one of the key things we have found against India is that if you can get the ball scuffed early enough, play a few shots even if it is swinging, just take them on try and get some sort of edge into the cricket ball,” Glenn Maxwell added. His strategic insights provide a glimpse into the mindset required to face the formidable Indian bowling unit in the ongoing World Cup.
