Vini Raman, the wife of Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell, has taken to social media to defend herself against online trolls who targeted her for supporting Australia in the World Cup final against India. Raman, who has Indian heritage, was flooded with hateful messages after Australia emerged victorious in the six-wicket win. The trolls questioned her loyalty and accused her of betraying her roots.

“A trip of a lifetime that Logan won’t remember. @gmaxi_32 still in awe of everything you’ve accomplished this tournament (are you even real?) PS. Swipe to the last slide for a little PSA,” she wrote. On the last slide, Raman directly addressed the trolls, expressing her disbelief that such comments were necessary. “Cue all the hateful vile DMs. Stay classy,” she wrote.

Raman went on to explain that she can be proud of her Indian heritage while also supporting Australia, the country where she was raised and where her husband plays cricket. “Can’t believe this needs to be said BUT you can be Indian and also support the country of your birth where you have been raised and more importantly the team your husband + father of your plays in #nobrainer,” she stated.

Raman urged the trolls to focus their energy on more important issues instead of engaging in online harassment. “Take a chill pill and direct the outrage towards more important world issues,” she concluded.

Raman’s response to the trolls highlights the importance of respecting individual choices and recognizing that people can have multiple identities and allegiances. While there may be passionate disagreements in the sporting world, it’s crucial to maintain civility and avoid personal attacks.
