The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced several modifications to the playing conditions for various domestic competitions, with some already implemented in tournaments like the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. One notable change in India’s premier red-ball competition penalizes a team for unfair movement from any of their fielders once the ball comes into play.

According to a report on Cricbuzz, in the event of unfair movement, the batting team will be awarded five penalty runs, and the ball will be declared dead. The rule specifies that either umpire will call and signal a dead ball, informing the other umpire of the reason for doing so.

The bowler’s end umpire will then award the one-run penalty for a wide or no-ball, if applicable, and give 5 penalty runs to the batting side. The captain of the fielding side will be informed of the reason for this action, and the batters and the batting side’s captain will be informed of what has occurred as soon as practicable.

One of the most talked-about rule changes is the removal of the limit of one bouncer per over, which was experimented with in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy and will also be implemented in the upcoming Indian Premier League season.

The 2023-24 Ranji Trophy is set to commence on January 5, featuring 19 matches in the first round across the country. The season will witness a total of 137 matches, with the final scheduled to start from March 10.
