In the realm of contemporary cricket greatness, Virat Kohli’s name shines bright with over 26,000 runs across formats. His prolific run-scoring prowess over the last decade has propelled him to the summit. The chatter around Kohli potentially emulating Sachin Tendulkar’s historic record of 100 international centuries gained momentum when he secured his 50th ODI hundred in the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand, surpassing Tendulkar’s remarkable tally.

Currently boasting 80 centuries—29 in Tests, 50 in ODIs, and 1 in T20Is—Kohli stands 20 tons away from equalling Tendulkar’s record. While the uncertainty of achieving this milestone lingers due to Kohli’s age, former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd believes it’s well within Kohli’s reach.

Speaking at an event in Kolkata, Clive Lloyd expressed, “I do not know about the period, but he is young enough, and I’m sure that the way he is playing he can achieve anything that he wants to. And it would be something to be quite happy to achieve.”

When asked about comparisons between Kohli and West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards, Clive Lloyd emphasized their distinct styles and stated, “Virat Kohli and Viv Richards are two different types of cricketers. So, there is no comparison. Virat will play cricket for a long time. He can achieve many things. He can also achieve the feat of Sachin Tendulkar. He has that capability and has time in his hand.”

Clive Lloyd advocates for a greater emphasis on Test cricket in the international calendar, advocating for a minimum of three red-ball games in bilateral series. Critiquing the scheduling, he remarked, “At the moment probably they’re having too many T20s and stuff. I’d like to see a little bit more Test cricket. And if you’re playing Test cricket, I’d prefer three Test matches or five.”

He concluded by expressing reservations about the West Indies traveling long distances for just two Test matches, emphasizing the need for more extended series to determine the superior team conclusively.
