On Day 3 of the 3rd Test between India and England, Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his batting prowess by scoring a brilliant century but had to leave the pitch due to a back spasm. The left-handed batsman’s century was his second 100-plus score of the series. Unfortunately, a niggle forced him to retire hurt in the 44th over. As he walked back, he received a standing ovation from both teams, with even opposition head coach Brendon McCullum applauding his remarkable knock.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s impactful performance in the second Test, where he smashed a double century, played a crucial role in India’s victory. Despite a modest start in the first innings of the third Test, scoring just 10 runs, Jaiswal showcased his composure and skill to notch up 100 runs in the second innings.

Since making his debut, Jaiswal has proven to be a valuable asset for the Indian team, providing stability at the top alongside captain Rohit Sharma. His aggressive style and left-handed advantage make him a challenging opponent for bowlers, allowing Rohit Sharma the freedom to play his shots.

Day 3 also witnessed a challenging start for England, losing two wickets within 18 runs. Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav removed Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, while the dangerous Ben Duckett fell victim to Kuldeep after scoring a notable 153 runs. English captain Ben Stokes contributed 41 runs, trying to regain momentum for the team.

Mohammed Siraj emerged as the star for India, taking four wickets to conclude the English innings, with Bumrah, Ashwin, Jadeja, and Kuldeep chipping in with wickets as well. Despite losing Rohit Sharma early in the second innings, India built a solid foundation with a 155-run partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill for the second wicket. However, Jaiswal’s retirement hurt India’s momentum.

As India aims to extend their lead in the second innings, they face the challenge of playing without Ravichandran Ashwin. The absence of the seasoned bowler puts extra responsibility on the Indian bowling unit. England, on the other hand, has been competitive throughout the series and looks to replicate their performance in the third Test. The hosts and visitors both strive to create a substantial target, considering the series trend where chasing down targets has proven difficult.
