Sunil Gavaskar showered praise on young cricketer Dhruv Jurel for his impressive performance in the ongoing fourth Test between India and England. The legendary cricketer drew comparisons between Jurel’s ‘presence of mind’ and that of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. In the fourth Test at Ranchi, Dhruv Jurel showcased his prowess with a remarkable maiden half-century, contributing significantly to India’s first-innings total of 307.
Although falling short of a century, scoring 90 runs before being dismissed by Tom Hartley, Jurel’s innings garnered widespread acclaim. Sunil Gavaskar lauded Jurel’s batting and highlighted his exceptional work behind the stumps. Gavaskar emphasized Jurel’s game awareness and street-smart cricketing abilities, drawing parallels with MS Dhoni in the early days of his career.
“Of course, he has batted well, but his keeping, his work behind the stumps has been equally brilliant. Just by looking at his game awareness, I want to say that he is another MS Dhoni in the making. I know there can never be another MSD but you know the presence of mind that he has, MSD also when he started, it was that. And Jurel has that game awareness. Jurel, along with Kuldeep Yadav, played a crucial role, forging a significant 76-run partnership for the eighth wicket, narrowing the deficit to less than 100 against England. Despite Kuldeep’s dismissal for 28 runs, Jurel continued to contribute with a valuable 40-run stand alongside No. 10 Akash Deep.
During the lunch break, Sunil Gavaskar expressed confidence in Jurel’s ability to score more centuries in the future if he maintains his current form, predicting him to become the next superstar for India.
“Today he missed out on a century but make no mistake this young man will go on to score many centuries because of his presence of mind,” Sunil Gavaskar stated during the lunch break.
