Rajat Patidar has faced criticism for his lackluster performance in the ongoing Test series against England, managing only 63 runs at an average of 10.5 across three matches. As calls for his exclusion from the squad grow louder, former South African batting maestro AB de Villiers has voiced his support for Patidar, urging the Indian team to persist with the middle-order batter.

“Rajat Patidar not having the series of a lifetime or one to remember. But the good thing about this Indian team and the culture is that you will survive in that side because of the great cricket they are playing and the results coming their way,” expressed AB de Villiers.

He further added, “If his attitude is catchy and if he is a likeable character in the dressing room, Rohit and the selection panel will have the ability to say, Hold on, we do believe this guy has a future and we see him as a part of the team moving forward. Even though he hasn’t been scoring runs, let’s give him a longer run.”

Acknowledging the remarkable team culture in the Indian squad, De Villiers commended their ability to have different players step up when needed. Despite Patidar’s current struggle with the bat, AB de Villiers sees the potential for him to make a significant contribution if given the chance.
