Ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has lauded the captaincy style of Rajasthan Royals’ skipper, Sanju Samson, calling it “phenomenal.” Ashwin, who plays under Samson’s leadership, commended the young captain’s ability to differentiate and manage on-field and off-field relationships effectively.

Speaking to Star Sports, Ashwin expressed the dynamic between him and Samson, saying, “On the field, I try and give him inputs as I see how the game is panning out. However, that relationship off the field doesn’t come on the field. It’s generally that younger brother, elder brother sort of a relationship off it. On the field, we are able to switch off.”

Ravichandran Ashwin emphasized the collaborative nature of their on-field communication, where he provides insights, and Samson makes decisions.

Highlighting Samson’s unique qualities, Ravichandran Ashwin mentioned, “I find Sanju as a young captain; he is able to differentiate and demarcate both, which is phenomenal.” The seasoned spinner acknowledged Samson’s leadership skills and his ability to manage the team’s strategies on the field.

Ravichandran Ashwin also shared insights into Samson’s off-field personality, describing him as “extremely funny.” He noted that people may not be aware of Samson’s humorous side off the field, emphasizing the difference between how players appear on the ground and their personalities away from the game.

Rajasthan Royals, who won the inaugural IPL in 2008, have faced challenges in securing the trophy in recent years. As they gear up for the IPL 2024 season, starting with a match against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24, the team aims to improve its performance under the leadership of Sanju Samson.
