Indian pace sensation Mohammed Shami recently provided an update on his injury recovery journey, offering fans a glimpse into his progress after being sidelined from the upcoming IPL 2024 season due to a heel injury. Shami, who last featured during the ODI World Cup 2023, underwent surgery in February, signalling a halt to his cricketing endeavours for a while.

In a social media post, Shami expressed gratitude for the advancements in his recovery, revealing that he had recently undergone the removal of stitches.

“Hello everyone! I wanted to provide an update on my recovery progress. It has been 15 days since my surgery, and I recently had my stitches removed. I am thankful for the advancements I have achieved and looking forward to the next stage of my healing journey,” shared Shami on Instagram.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Shami’s absence from the IPL, stating that he would continue to be under medical observation by the BCCI’s medical team. “He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024,” affirmed the BCCI.

Moreover, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah disclosed that Shami’s recovery timeline would extend beyond the IPL, confirming his unavailability for the T20 World Cup 2024.

However, Shah remained optimistic about Shami’s return for the home series against Bangladesh in September. “Shami’s surgery is done, he is back in India. Shami’s return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh,” Jay Shah informed PTI.

Shami’s absence will undoubtedly be felt by the Gujarat Titans, where he emerged as a pivotal figure in the bowling lineup last season.
