It seems that there is no halt to the fielding woes in this edition of the Indian Premier League. More than 60 catches have been dropped so far. A catch is said to be dropped if the ball touches the fielder’s hands. Another such incident happened in today’s first match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils. But it was more of a case where no fielder made an attempt to catch the ball.
On the third ball of the sixth over, Robin Uthappa miscued a pull off Kagiso Rabada. The ball went high into the night sky only to come back without any fielder making an attempt to catch it. Not that it landed in no man’s land, it was just a lack of communication between the Daredevils’ trio.
Rishabh Pant ran from the wicket-keeper’s position, Amit Mishra from short fine-leg and Sanju Samson from mid-wicket, but none of them called for it and perhaps each one of them expected someone or the other to grab it. One out of Mishra and Samson should have gone for it.
Uthappa was on nine runs at that point of time. He ended up scoring 59 and turned the match in the favour of his team. Such was the value of magnificent innings. Watch the full video:
