The IPL encounter between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) witnessed a momentary halt on Saturday (Apr 6) due to a security breach. A fan breached the security cordon and sprinted onto the field, heading straight for Virat Kohli. Kohli, initially startled, allowed the fan to embrace him before stewards and security officials swiftly escorted the intruder out of the playing arena.

Identified as Munir Ali, a 14-year-old from Bihar’s Araria district, the boy disclosed that he worked at Delhi’s Ghazipur market and had arrived in Jaipur on Friday (Apr 6). Ali recounted being approached by an individual named Shubham outside the stadium who purportedly engaged in black-market ticketing.

Driven by excitement to watch his ‘idol’ Kohli in action, Munir Ali revealed he spent INR 1,900 ($23) on the ticket and was directed to the frisking zone by Shubham, who promptly disappeared. Following initial interrogation, Ali was taken to the police station for further questioning.

Notably, he did not possess the ticket at the time of apprehension and provided Shubham’s contact details to the authorities. This incident unfolded days after a similar breach during RCB’s match against Punjab Kings, where a fan breached security to meet Kohli, allegedly facing subsequent assault by police officers as seen in a video circulated on social media.

Amidst security concerns arising from recurrent breaches, Virat Kohli showcased his cricketing prowess by crafting his eighth IPL century against RR. Despite his stellar performance, RCB struggled to forge substantial partnerships, culminating in a modest total of 183 runs.

In the chase, RR faced an early setback with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal, but Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson orchestrated a sensational 148-run partnership, steering RR to victory with six wickets in hand and five balls remaining. While RR maintained their unbeaten streak, RCB’s dismal form continued with their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament.
