As the excitement builds for the upcoming clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL 2024, RCB’s stalwart, Virat Kohli, took a moment to reflect on the evolution of the team’s home ground, the iconic M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

In a candid chat with Danish Sait for RCB podcast season 3, Kohli, who has been a cornerstone of the RCB franchise for over 17 seasons, reminisced about the remarkable transformations witnessed at the stadium since the inception of the IPL in 2008.

Describing the significant changes, Virat Kohli remarked, “It has changed a lot in terms of how things were set up back then initially to now. Just the level of organization around an IPL game is chalk and cheese. Initially, people came to watch IPL, but the interaction or the experience of coming to Chinnaswamy to watch an IPL game was not as enhanced as it is today. That is one of the main reasons why people love coming to Chinnaswamy stadium to watch the games.”

Virat Kohli highlighted the overhaul of the outfield and pitch, giving the venue a fresh and modern appeal. He also emphasized the enhanced experience for fans, evident from their enjoyment of the run fest in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. Additionally, Kohli expressed his fondness for pre-match interactions with fans, a cherished aspect of the Chinnaswamy experience.

In a snippet shared on RCB’s official social media handle, Virat Kohli further elaborated, “Just in general about the stadium, also the outfield was relayed, the pitch was relayed, and so many changes have happened. I feel you look at the stadium now, it is a stark difference just the way it looks as well, and I am sure the experience for the fans is also very different.”

Acknowledging the anticipation of fans before entering the stadium, Virat Kohli shared, “I think one thing that I have always looked forward to is the crowd that is there just before entering the stadium gate. That is because they get to see the players for the longest periods as the bus which is turning has to stop for the longest time.”

With Kohli currently leading the batting charts with 319 runs in six games, RCB, despite their current position at the bottom of the points table, aims to secure their second victory of the season against SRH at their home turf. The anticipation is high as fans eagerly await another thrilling match at the rejuvenated M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.
