Ahead of Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) upcoming game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the iconic Eden Gardens, mentor Gautam Gambhir embarked on a visit to the revered Kalighat Temple, nestled in the heart of the City of Joy. The two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions shared glimpses of Gambhir’s spiritual sojourn, capturing moments of his participation in rituals and seeking divine blessings.

Earlier, KKR players Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, Anukul Roy, and Varun Chakaravarthy also sought the divine favour of Goddess Kali at the Kalighat Temple. KKR shared a video documenting their visit on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), underscoring the team’s reverence and spiritual grounding amidst their rigorous cricketing pursuits.

KKR commenced their IPL 2024 campaign on a formidable note, clinching victory in their first three matches, marking the first instance of such a resounding start to a season. The team displayed commendable prowess in these wins against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Capitals.

However, KKR faced their first setback of the season against defending champions Chennai Super Kings, suffering a seven-wicket defeat at Chepauk earlier in the week. Reflecting on the loss, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer acknowledged the team’s shortcomings in assessing the pitch conditions effectively.

“We fell a little short in assessing the wicket. Phenomenal start in the powerplay but we couldn’t capitalize on it, we lost consecutive wickets and weren’t able to assess the conditions quickly because it changed completely after the powerplay. Scoring runs on this wasn’t easy,” Shreyas Iyer remarked post-match.

He further elaborated on the challenges posed by CSK’s familiarity with the conditions and the tackiness of the pitch, emphasizing the need for the team to adapt and learn from the experience.
