Kolkata Knight Riders’ fast bowler Harshit Rana faced disciplinary action from the IPL authorities, receiving a hefty fine of 100% of his match fee and a suspension for a game. This decision came following a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct during KKR’s recent clash against Delhi Capitals. As a result, Rana will be sidelined for KKR’s upcoming fixture against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 3.
While the specifics of Rana’s transgression were not explicitly stated in the IPL’s official release, it’s widely speculated that his exuberant celebrations directed at Delhi Capitals’ batsman Abishek Porel led to the disciplinary action. Rana, who delivered a standout performance with figures of 2 for 28 in KKR’s victorious outing, displayed animated gestures towards Porel upon dismissing him in the seventh over of DC’s innings.

Consequently, Rana faced a Level 1 breach under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s regulations, with the Match Referee’s ruling being final for such infractions. This incident marks Rana’s second offence of the season, following an earlier penalty incurred during KKR’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

In that game, Harshit Rana’s intense stare towards SRH’s Mayank Agarwal post-dismissal resulted in a fine amounting to 60% of his match fee. Despite these setbacks, KKR remains positioned strongly in the IPL standings, currently occupying the second spot with 12 points and boasting the best Net Run Rate (NRR) of 1.096 among all teams in the tournament.
