During the IPL 2024 clash between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, Ravindra Jadeja found himself dismissed for ‘obstructing the field’. In the 16th over of CSK’s run chase, Jadeja guided a delivery from Avesh Khan to third man and swiftly completed one run. However, as he attempted to return for a second run, teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad signalled him to turn back.

In his haste, Jadeja found himself in the line of the throw from the fielder to the non-striker’s end, resulting in the ball striking him as he scrambled to regain his crease. Following an on-field review, the third umpire determined that Jadeja had deliberately altered his running path, leading to the decision being made in favour of RR.

The verdict left the CSK crowd in disbelief, with Sakshi Dhoni, wife of MS Dhoni, expressing her astonishment, a moment that quickly went viral on social media. Despite the controversy, CSK emerged victorious, largely thanks to Simarjeet Singh’s three-wicket haul that restricted RR to a modest total.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s exemplary leadership further steered the five-time champions towards a crucial win. With this triumph, CSK’s points tally rose to 14 from 13 matches, placing them in a promising position to secure a playoff berth.

However, the outcome of the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals could significantly influence the playoff lineup, making the upcoming clash between CSK and RCB pivotal in determining the final standings.
