In the ongoing edition of the IPL, the batters have been ruling with massive scores. While anything above 200 was seen as a safe score some time ago, this season of IPL has seen even a 250-plus score might not be safe as well. And Sourav Ganguly has opened up on this huge change by revealing an interesting story. In a recent interview, the former India captain revealed how his nephew told him that Virat Kohli might get dropped after he saw him defend a ball.

“I have a nephew at home. He’s 14. He saw Virat Kohli defending one day. He said, ‘uncle, he is defending. They might not pick him’. That’s what the mindset is,” said Sourav Ganguly.

Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly recently also shared that Kohli should be opening for Team India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Applauding the right-handed batter for his impressive show in the ongoing IPL 2024, Ganguly stated that the team should use the in-form player as an opener as well.

“Virat is playing exceptionally well. The way Kohli batted last night – 90 in quick time, you need to use him as an opener in the T20 World Cup. He should open, evidenced by his last few IPL innings which have been outstanding,” Ganguly told PTI.

However, Virat Kohli has been in sublime form in the 17th edition of the IPL. While there were several questions raised on his strike rate, the former India skipper has shut down everyone with his brilliant displays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as well. He is currently the leading run-scorer in IPL 2024. In 13 games so far, Kohli has smashed 661 runs with a century and five half-centuries as well.
