Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Sunil Narine ensured his name was added to the wicket column in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad. KKR dominated SRH with a stellar bowling performance.

Led by Shreyas Iyer, the team executed their plans perfectly, dismantling SRH’s batting lineup. The initial damage was done by Mitchell Starc, who delivered a fiery spell that decimated the top order of the Orange Army. Starc’s aggressive bowling set the tone for KKR, and they capitalized on it, continuously applying pressure and taking wickets at regular intervals.

While most KKR bowlers contributed effectively, Sunil Narine initially struggled to make an impact in his first three overs. However, he ensured to leave his mark in his final over by producing a spectacular delivery to dismiss Sanvir Singh, who had been brought in as an impact player.

Sunil Narine bowled a 92.6kph length ball on the middle stump that turned sharply after pitching. Sanvir Singh, attempting a forward defensive stroke, left a significant gap between bat and pad, allowing the ball to deflect off his pads and crash into the stumps.

Sanvir Singh’s dismissal for a golden duck proved that SRH’s strategy to use him as an impact player backfired. His wicket left the Pat Cummins-led side struggling at 121/7, with KKR tightening their grip on the match. Following Sanvir’s wicket, Abdul Samad also fell cheaply, further worsening SRH’s situation.

Despite the collapse, SRH captain Pat Cummins played a resilient innings, steering his team past the 150-run mark. Cummins’ unbeaten knock provided some respectability to SRH’s total, as they posted 159 runs on the board at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad. Cummins’ effort, however, seemed insufficient in the face of KKR’s dominant bowling display, spearheaded by Starc and capped off by Narine’s crucial breakthrough.
