Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins once again showcased his ability to perform under pressure during the IPL 2024 Qualifier 1 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Cummins contributed a vital 30 runs when his team was struggling and followed it up with a crucial wicket, dismissing KKR’s Sunil Narine to give SRH a fighting chance.

Narine was dismissed in the seventh over with a short delivery on the off-stump line. He attempted a pull shot but failed to time it properly, sending the ball straight to deep mid-wicket, where Vijayakanth Viyaskanth took a comfortable catch.

The crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium erupted in joy, especially Komal Sharma, the sister of SRH batter Abhishek Sharma. This wicket gave SRH a glimmer of hope, but Venkatesh Iyer quickly extinguished it by blasting a massive six on the fifth delivery of the over.

Earlier, SRH had opted to bat first after winning the toss but struggled against a disciplined KKR bowling attack. Mitchell Starc’s brilliant spell in the Powerplay saw SRH lose four early wickets, which ultimately restricted them to a below-par total of 159 on a good batting deck in Ahmedabad. Despite Cummins’ efforts, SRH couldn’t recover fully.

The KKR bowlers, led by Starc, delivered a complete performance, bundling out SRH for a modest score. In their chase, KKR dominated the proceedings, cruising to victory with 38 balls to spare and 8 wickets in hand. The match highlighted the importance of strong all-round performances and the impact key players can have in crucial situations. Pat Cummins’ efforts, though commendable, weren’t enough to turn the tide.
