Ravichandran Ashwin Excited To Play In Chennai For IPL Qualifier

Ravichandran Ashwin, the seasoned spinner for the Rajasthan Royals, is brimming with excitement as he anticipates playing in the Indian Premier League Qualifier 2, especially because it’s happening in his hometown of Chennai. Following RR’s victory over Faf du Plessis’ Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL Eliminator 2024, the team, which clinched the championship in 2008, released a video featuring Ashwin discussing the eagerly awaited clash.

Expressing his delight at the prospect of competing in Chennai, Ashwin shared, “I am going home… Chennai is a very special place. For everybody, their home is a special place.”

Reflecting on his past performances at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the Indian spinner remarked, “And that’s one place I have always done very well. Also, had a few interesting batting stints when I played in Chennai the last time… So yeah, I am looking forward to it.”

The Chennai crowd is renowned for its passionate support, even though their home team, Chennai Super Kings, didn’t make the playoffs. Ashwin is confident that his local connections will attract some fans to rally behind his team.

Describing the electric atmosphere at Chepauk, the veteran spinner emphasized, “There’s nothing like playing in front of that crowd. And I am sure we will get Halla Bol and Halla Bol support.”

 

Recognizing the significance of the upcoming match, Ashwin anticipated that the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 would be a blockbuster encounter. “It’s going to be a very interesting game. Can we bring our A-game? Can we be tactically very superior to them? Those are the questions we need to answer over the next 24 hours,” he concluded in the interview.

Both Rajasthan Royals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad have emerged as strong contenders in IPL 2024. Rajasthan started their campaign with four consecutive wins, ultimately finishing third in the group stage with eight victories. Meanwhile, the Sunrisers Hyderabad secured nine wins, earning a spot in Qualifier 1, which they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders. The winner of tonight’s fixture will face the Shah Rukh Khan-co-owned franchise in the tournament’s ultimate game.
