Australian batting star David Warner expressed his delight at witnessing his Delhi Capitals (DC) teammate Rishabh Pant’s remarkable comeback to competitive cricket. Pant, who had been sidelined due to severe injuries from a near-fatal car accident in December 2022, missed the entire IPL 2023 season. In his absence, Warner led DC, stepping up as captain and attempting to fill the void left by the dynamic wicketkeeper-batter.
Pant’s return was a highlight of the season, as he had a productive run with the bat, scoring 446 runs in 13 matches, including three half-centuries. Despite Pant’s efforts, DC fell short of making it to the playoffs, finishing sixth in the points table with seven wins out of 14 league matches.
As the IPL 2024 season concluded, David Warner took to social media to bid farewell to the league and express his gratitude to Indian cricket fans. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Warner congratulated the Kolkata Knight Riders on their third title win and extended his thanks to the DC supporters for their unwavering support throughout the campaign.

“Now the IPL has finished I will post a thank you. Congrats to Kolkata Knight Riders for winning this year. Very well deserved and were very consistent. To our fans, thank you for always cheering us on and supporting us. Wasn’t our year this year but we gave it our all. Some outstanding performances from our young guys and how good was it to see,” David Warner wrote.

Warner also highlighted Pant’s dedication and resilience, acknowledging his impressive comeback after the accident. He praised Pant’s commitment and the inspirational journey back to the field, which was a significant morale booster for the team.
“It was also great to see Rishabh Pant back playing again after his accident. To witness the comeback first-hand and how committed he was to playing was simply fantastic,” David Warner added.

However, Warner himself struggled with form during IPL 2024, managing only 168 runs at a strike rate of 134 from eight matches. Following a series of underwhelming performances, he was eventually dropped from DC’s playing XI, with the young Jake Frasher-McGurk taking his place. As Pant prepares to represent the Indian cricket team in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA, Warner reflects on a challenging season and looks forward to future opportunities.
