The USA cricket team delivered a stunning upset against Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup, securing a thrilling victory at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. The Monank Patel-led side showcased an exceptional performance, both with the bat and ball, to significantly boost their chances of progressing to the Super 8 stage. Batting first, Pakistan struggled to find their rhythm, losing three crucial wickets during the powerplay. Despite a few attempts to stabilize the innings, they managed to post a modest total of 159 runs.

In response, the USA’s batting lineup appeared confident and composed. Captain Monank Patel led by example, scoring an impressive 50 runs off 38 balls. However, the match took a dramatic turn towards the end as the USA faltered slightly, missing their chance to secure a win within the regular 40 overs, pushing the game into a Super Over.

In the decisive Super Over, Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir faced difficulties, conceding 18 runs, including multiple extras. This proved costly for Pakistan, as they failed to chase down the target, thus marking their first defeat in the tournament.

Former cricketer Yuvraj Singh provided an analysis of Pakistan’s performance during the Super Over. He pointed out a strategic error, suggesting that Fakhar Zaman should have faced the left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar, as it would have been easier for the left-hander to counter the bowler’s angle. Yuvraj emphasized that Pakistan now faces a critical challenge and must win their upcoming match against India on June 9 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium to stay in contention for the Super 8.

Yuvraj Singh expressed his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I don’t understand why @FakharZamanLive didn’t take strike against a lefty seamer—it’s easier for a left-hander to hit through the angle the bowler is trying to create. Nonetheless, credit to #TeamUSA @usacricket for making smart decisions under pressure, especially captain Monank Patel. Now, Pakistan needs a must-win against India and they surely need to bat and field better!”

Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam also shared his disappointment following the unexpected loss. The 29-year-old captain acknowledged that the bowlers underperformed in the first six overs, and the batting lineup failed to deliver a strong performance. Babar himself scored 44 runs off 43 deliveries, a performance that drew considerable criticism from both fans and critics.

This surprising victory by the USA not only adds a twist to the tournament but also highlights their growing prowess in international cricket. Meanwhile, Pakistan will need to regroup and address their shortcomings to keep their Super 8 aspirations alive.
