In a thrilling encounter at the ICC T20 World Cup, Bangladesh and the Netherlands clashed in the 27th match at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St. Vincent. The game was marked by a dramatic incident involving Bangladeshi opener Tanzid Hasan, which added to the excitement of an already intense match.
The Netherlands won the toss and elected to field, putting Bangladesh in to bat first. The pressure was immediate for Bangladesh, as their captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed early. Tanzid Hasan then stepped up, aiming to stabilize the innings and score aggressively.
In Vivian Kingma’s third over, Tanzid showcased his attacking prowess by smashing 14 runs off the first four deliveries, signalling his intent to dominate the Dutch bowling attack. However, the fifth delivery of the over brought a heart-stopping moment. Kingma bowled a fierce bouncer that was aimed directly at Tanzid’s head.

With his eyes closed in reflex, Tanzid braced for the impact. The ball struck the protective grill of his helmet with such force that it lodged itself there, momentarily stunning both the players and the spectators.The tension on the field was palpable as Tanzid, visibly shaken, removed his helmet to reveal the ball stuck in the grill.

Fortunately, the protective gear had done its job, and a quick examination by the team physio confirmed that Tanzid had not suffered a concussion. Displaying remarkable composure, Tanzid faced the next delivery with determination, hitting a boundary to complete an impressive over of 18 runs. His resilience set the tone for Bangladesh, who managed to post a competitive total of 159/5 by the end of their innings.
Shakib Al Hasan was the standout performer with the bat for Bangladesh, scoring a brilliant 64 off 46 balls, including nine fours. On the bowling front, Paul van Meekeren was the most successful for the Netherlands, taking two crucial wickets in his four-over spell.

At the time of writing, the Netherlands were at 99 for the loss of three wickets in 13 overs, needing 61 more runs from 42 balls to win.
