Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery spell against Afghanistan has cricket legends singing his praises. With eight wickets in the ongoing T20 World Cup, Bumrah has been a force to be reckoned with, leaving batsmen bewildered. His exceptional display against Afghanistan, where he choked the life out of the opposition with figures of 3/7 in just four overs, solidified his dominance.
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar couldn’t help but marvel at Bumrah’s brilliance. Speaking on the ESPNCricinfo TIMEOUT show, Manjrekar compared Bumrah’s current form to a legendary spell – Sunil Narine’s domination at Eden Gardens during the IPL. “Look at the difference between him and other international-standard seamers,” Manjrekar emphasized. “He’s a level above. India is incredibly fortunate to have him in the side.”
Applauding Bumrah’s control and execution, former Indian captain Anil Kumble echoed Manjrekar’s sentiment.

Analyzing Bumrah’s dismissal of Rahmanullah Gurbaz with a slower ball and a wider line, Kumble remarked, “He understands his bowling so well. It’s about perfect execution, not just variations. He tailors his approach to each batsman, figures them out under pressure, and delivers in big games. This kind of control and minimizing boundaries throughout the tournament is a true testament to his skill.”
Sanjay Manjrekar also turned his focus to the explosive batting of Suryakumar Yadav, whose blistering knock against Afghanistan steered India to victory. Yadav’s ability to adapt and score consistently was highlighted by Manjrekar.
“This is the benefit of having one of the best T20 batters in the world,” he stated. “A tricky pitch, Rashid Khan bowling well, yet Surya showed his immense value. What often gets overlooked is his masterful use of ground shots. He chips the ball over the infield, finding gaps consistently. He doesn’t rely solely on sixes, minimizing the risk of mistimed shots.”

Kumble concurred with Manjrekar, praising Yadav’s versatility. “He brings the kind of power and strokeplay India needs at number four,” Anil Kumble said. “His form puts immense pressure on bowlers. There’s no easy way to bowl to him. He finds ways to score boundaries regardless of field placements. This kind of form in the first Super 8 match is a great sign for India.”
With both Bumrah’s fiery pace and Yadav’s audacious batting on song, India seems to have a potent combination at their disposal. Their continued brilliance will be crucial as they navigate the challenges of the Super 8 stage and strive for World Cup glory.
