India’s upcoming tour to South Africa in November 2024 marks their return to the rainbow nation within a year, as confirmed by Cricket South Africa (CSA) in a social media announcement on Friday. This tour adds another fixture to India’s packed schedule following the culmination of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Amidst this announcement, Gerhard Erasmus, the captain of Namibia and a prominent cricketer, took to social media, specifically X (formerly Twitter), urging the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider playing warm-up matches against Namibia in Windhoek. Erasmus believes such matches would significantly boost cricket’s popularity in his country.

The official Proteas Men’s X account posted, “Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are delighted to confirm the scheduling of yet another thrilling KFC T20 International (T20I) series, which will see India travelling to South Africa in November 2024,” to which Erasmus responded by quoting the tweet and suggesting, “Hey BCCI, warm-up in Windhoek? [heart].”

India’s tour to South Africa will feature a series of four T20Is starting from November 8, with the first match scheduled in Durban. Subsequent matches will be held in Gqeberha, Centurion, and Johannesburg, culminating on November 15.

This series is strategically placed between India’s home series against New Zealand, concluding on November 5, and their tour to Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, commencing on November 22. Given this tightly packed schedule, it remains uncertain whether the BCCI will accept Erasmus’ proposal for warm-up matches against Namibia.
