Virat Kohli, on Saturday (June 22), finally managed to cross the 30-run mark in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024, scoring 37 runs in the Super 8 game between India and Bangladesh. The former India skipper, under scrutiny for his lackluster performance in the tournament, will be hoping this latest knock provides some respite. Kohli had only managed to score 5 runs in 3 group stage games.
In the first game against Ireland, Virat Kohli was dismissed for just 1 run off 5 balls. His struggles continued with a 4-run knock against Pakistan, followed by a duck against the USA. He showed some signs of form in the previous match against Afghanistan, scoring 24 runs, but failed to build on that start.
Against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli seemed to be finding his rhythm and looked in good touch. However, he once again failed to convert his start into a significant score, being dismissed for 37 by Tanzim Hasan Sakib. In the 9th over, the right-arm pacer clean-bowled Kohli.

Attempting a big shot, Virat Kohli advanced down the track, but Sakib shortened the length, resulting in Kohli missing the ball entirely and it crashing into the stumps. Sakib, visibly elated, gave a subtle send-off to the Indian star.

As for the match, India were 170 for 4 in the 18th over at the time of writing this report. Rohit Sharma was the first to depart, scoring 23 before being dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan. Sakib then took the crucial wickets of Kohli and the in-form Suryakumar Yadav in the 9th over, leaving India struggling at 77 for 3.

Rishabh Pant, like Kohli and Rohit, got a start but couldn’t capitalize, departing after scoring 36. India will need their middle and lower order to step up if they are to post a competitive total against Bangladesh and bolster their chances of advancing in the tournament.
