England cricket had a bit of fun at India’s expense after it was confirmed that the two teams would face off in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024. On June 24, India secured their spot in the final four with a decisive victory over Australia in St. Lucia. Rohit Sharma’s impressive 92-run performance helped India post a formidable total of 205 runs in their 20 overs.

Although Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh provided some tense moments for India during Australia’s chase, India managed to regain control and win the match by 24 runs.

With this win, India topped Group 1 and set up a semi-final clash with England in Guyana. The defending champions, England, had a challenging path to the semi-finals. In the group stages, they needed Australia to edge past Scotland to secure their spot in the Super 8s. After a dominant performance against the West Indies, England suffered a loss to South Africa and required a significant victory over the USA to advance. Jos Buttler delivered just that, dismantling the USA bowling attack.

Following the confirmation of the semi-final matchup, England’s cricket team took to social media to remind everyone of their last T20 World Cup semi-final encounter with India. They cheekily tweeted, “Anyone know what happened last time?”

Indian fans will remember the previous semi-final clash all too well. In the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final, India set a target of 169 runs, thanks to contributions from Hardik Pandya (63) and Virat Kohli (50). However, England’s Alex Hales and Jos Buttler dominated the Indian bowlers, leading their team to a 10-wicket victory by scoring 170 runs in just 16 overs.
