The moment has almost arrived for South Africa as they prepare to face India in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. The much-anticipated clash will take place at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 29. As the game draws near, the South African camp is likely filled with a mix of excitement and strategic planning.
Former cricketer Morne Morkel has offered some valuable advice to the Proteas, emphasizing the importance of not overthinking their approach against the unbeaten Indian team. Recognizing the formidable challenge that India presents, Morkel advised South Africa to stick to their game plan, especially when dealing with key Indian players like Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav.
“I think you need to play in the moment. Yes, they know that Jasprit can take wickets up front. He is going to be crucial at death when he bowls two overs. So, do they start pushing in a bit earlier in that batting innings to try and get to a respectable score?” Morne Morkel told ESPNcricinfo.

“Honestly, I think we cannot overthink that. Kuldeep is obviously unbelievable in the middle for India; he is a wicket-taker. He can stop the game and create a lot of pressure. South Africa needs to take the nerves and those moments out of the equation and focus ball by ball,” he added.
Jasprit Bumrah has been exceptional with the ball throughout the tournament, claiming 13 wickets in his seven matches. Similarly, Kuldeep Yadav has been outstanding with his spin, taking 10 wickets in just four matches. These performances underline the significant threat posed by the Indian bowling attack.
