India ended their 11-year ICC title drought with a memorable T20 World Cup campaign where they registered a thrilling seven-run victory against South Africa on June 29, 2024, in Barbados. However, soon after the campaign, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirements from T20I cricket as well.
After returning to India, the team met the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi in a formal meeting and breakfast as well. However, after that, they have a spirited open-bus parade along Mumbai’s Marine Drive and a grand event at the Wankhede Stadium as well. The Indian team not only experienced the love and passion of the fans, who filled the Queen’s Necklace but the team also received an additional funding of INR 125 crore from the Board of Control for Cricket in India as well. Initially, only INR 20.12 crore was earmarked by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the tournament winners as well.
However, in the latest development, it has been known that Eknath Shinde, the current Chief Minister of Maharashtra, has announced the government’s decision to give an additional INR 11 crore as a gesture of utmost respect and recognition for the team’s great efforts. This amount will be distributed between the winning captains Rohit Sharma, Shivam Dube, Suryakumar Yadav, and Yashasvi Jaiswal as well.

After the win, Rohit Sharma said, “Very hard to sum up what we have been through for the last 3-4 years. To be honest, we worked very hard as individuals and as a team a team, lot has gone on behind the scenes for us to be here today and win this game. It is not what we did today, it is what we have been doing for the last 3-4 years. That’s the the result that has come for us today. We have played lots of high pressure games in the past as well and have been on the wrong side as well. But the guys understand what needs to be done. Today was the perfect example of when the back is against the wall, what is required. We stuck together as a team and the guys, all of us, even when at one point it was looking South Africa’s way. Overall, as a team, as a group on the field, we wanted this really bad. We wanted to win this.”
