India captain Harmanpreet Kaur wants India to continue playing fearless cricket after their match against Pakistan in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 on Friday, July 19. India won the match by 7 wickets after an all-round show in Dambulla helped as Pakistan also struggled. Deepti Sharma picked up 3 wickets as Pakistan was only bundled out for 108 runs. The chase was then perfectly done by Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana put on 84 runs for the first wicket as well.
Speaking after the win at the post-match press conference, Harmanpreet said, “Our bowlers and openers made it. First game is always a pressure game, but we managed it well. Our entire unit played really well. When we are bowling we talk about early breakthroughs and in batting, we look to start well so credit to Smriti and Shafali,” said Harmanpreet Kaur. “Playing fearless cricket, how we played today and we are really happy with the way we played. My knee is fine,” again said Harmanpreet.
Meanwhile, India all-rounder Deepti Sharma also revealed how her constant work on her bowling helped her to post a match-winning performance against Pakistan on Friday as well. Notably, she bowled a magnificent spell of 3/20 in four overs as well.
“Feeling great and it worked out according to the plan. Bowled in the right areas. As a unit we are doing very well, having camps helped us a lot. I worked on my bowling after the South Africa series which helped. [on getting Nida Dar] She is a good batter and it brings a lot of satisfaction when you get a batter like that. [if she knew she had reached 250 international wickets] No idea,” said Sharma in the post-match presentation.
India will now take on UAE on the 21st of July.
