The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has undertaken a commendable initiative, as BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced that the organization will donate INR 8.5 crore to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to support their efforts in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Olympic Games this year will officially commence on Friday, July 26.

Approximately 10,500 athletes from over 200 nations will captivate sports enthusiasts with their remarkable performances. A total of 329 medals will be contested across 32 sports and 45 events in this prestigious competition. Jay Shah used his official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle to share BCCI’s decision to support the IOA as Indian athletes aim to bring glory to the nation.

“I am proud to announce that the @BCCI will be supporting our incredible athletes representing #India at the 2024 Paris Olympics. We are providing INR 8.5 Crores to the IOA for the campaign. To our entire contingent, we wish you the very best. Make India proud! Jai Hind,” Shah wrote.

Indian fans are hopeful for a strong performance from their athletes at the upcoming event, following their memorable campaign in the previous edition held in Tokyo three years ago. During the Tokyo Games, the Indian contingent achieved their best-ever medal haul, securing seven medals, including the historic gold in javelin throw by Neeraj Chopra. Consequently, expectations are high for the Paris Olympics.

While cricket enthusiasts will be focusing on other sports at the multi-nation competition this year, they have something to look forward to in the 2028 edition of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Cricket is set to make its second appearance at the Olympics in 2028. The sport was last included in the Olympic program in 1900, during only the second edition of the Summer Games.

This generous contribution by the BCCI not only highlights their commitment to supporting Indian sports but also enhances the morale of the athletes representing India on the global stage.
