Former T20I skipper of India, Rohit Sharma, congratulated the Suryakumar Yadav-led side for the series win against the Lankans on Tuesday. It was a pulsating game won via the Super Over, which sealed a 3-0 series sweep and got them off to a winning start under new head coach Gautam Gambhir. India posted a modest total of 137 runs in their innings while batting first.
Though Sri Lanka started the chase pretty well, they stumbled at the very end. Rinku Singh and skipper Suryakumar Yadav rolled out a masterclass of spin bowling, picking up two each of the crucial wickets in the final overs. The action had picked up dramatically, and the game ended up going to the Super Over. Washington Sundar then bowled a brilliant Super Over, in which he allowed Sri Lanka to score only 2 for 2. On the very first ball of their reply, Suryakumar sealed the deal with a four.

“More than the last over, I feel when we were around 30-4, how the boys showed character. 140 was a par score on that track,” said Suryakumar Yadav at the post-match presentation. “I told them, if we put our heart into it, we could pull it off. The amount of skill they have and their self-confidence makes my job easier. The positivity and care for each other are unbelievable,” he added.
It’s now time to focus on the three-match ODI series wherein India expects the return of its senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The 50-over series will begin on August 2, ensuring more enthralling cricket action.
