All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the ongoing three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury. The first ODI ended in a thrilling tie, and India and Sri Lanka are now gearing up for the second ODI at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday. Hasaranga’s injury occurred during the final delivery of his spell, where he was seen clutching his hamstring in discomfort.

This unfortunate development has led to Jeffrey Vandersay being named as his replacement. Wanindu Hasaranga’s absence is a significant blow to the Sri Lankan bowling attack, which is already facing the absence of key players like Matheesha Pathirana, Dilshan Madushanka, Dushmantha Chameera, and Nuwan Thushara.

The loss of Hasaranga, who is known for his crucial all-round contributions, puts additional pressure on the team as they look to secure a win in the remaining matches of the series.

“Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the remainder of the ODI series, as the player has suffered an injury to his left hamstring,” Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed in a release. The statement elaborated, “He experienced pain in his left hamstring while delivering the last ball of his 10th over during the first ODI. An MRI performed on the player confirmed the injury.”

The release also announced Jeffrey Vandersay as Hasaranga’s replacement. The 34-year-old Vandersay, who last played an ODI for Sri Lanka in January against Zimbabwe, will be stepping in to fill the void left by Hasaranga. Vandersay brings experience to the team, having played 22 ODIs for Sri Lanka.

The series continues to generate excitement and anticipation, with the third and final ODI scheduled to be played at the same venue on August 7. Sri Lanka will be hoping to overcome these setbacks and put up a strong performance against a formidable Indian side.
