Former Indian opener turned veteran commentator Aakash Chopra was unhappy with star batter Virat Kohli’s struggles against the Sri Lankan spinners in the recently concluded three-match ODI series. However, Kohli was out LBW to spin in all three games as well. He also opined on how Kohli had misread the line of the deliveries and also stated that the veteran used up a review each time. He scored just 58 runs in three innings as well.
Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said about Virat Kohli: “Virat Kohli LBW three times in three innings against spinners. I don’t remember the last time it happened. He was playing the wrong line and also used up reviews each time. He wasn’t quite able to impose himself in the series.”

However, the Indian batters failed in the third ODI against the spinners once again, with left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage claiming 5/27. With 157 runs from three innings, Rohit Sharma had a successful series as a batter. However, Aakash Chopra was surprised to see how the other Indian batters failed to do well.
“Shreyas Iyer is considered a good player of spin but even he was unable to counter the spinners twice and got dismissed to pace once. If our good players of spin have such performances, not sure why is it happening,” he again stated. “Rohit Sharma seems a cut above the rest. It seems like the bowlers fear while bowling to him. But once he is dismissed, other batters are just not able to bat and this is a pattern India will be disappointed with.”
However, Aakash Chopra also opened up on India’s tactics. He also felt Riyan Parag’s debut was a huge positive for the Indian team from the third ODI. He bowled nine overs and picked up figures of 3/54. He also showed good intent with the bat for the some time that he was out in the middle.

“No.4 has become a revolving door as we had a different No.4 in every game. Why do you need to push someone like KL Rahul down to No.6-7? Why don’t you fight from the front?,” Aakash Chopra concluded. “India played KL Rahul for two games and then dropped him. It is interesting to think whether he is in their plans because from 2023 no one in the middle order has scored as many runs as him. Riyan Parag was a positive as he picked up three wickets with the ball. He did well in the T20 series too and under Gautam Gambhir’s tenure it seems like this is one player he wants to invest in.”
