From within, Rohit Sharma was the only silver lining to the disaster that had stuck India, which is the 2-0 defeat in the T20 series to Sri Lanka. The traveling team collectively underperformed, but the Indian captain managed to emerge as the top run-getter of the series, with 157 runs to his name at a strike rate of 141.44. His high strike rate on difficult pitches, coupled with this, was testimony to the exceptional quality of his batting and helped cement his place as one of the best batsmen in modern days.
India’s lead off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, didn’t waste any time in acknowledging the approach of Rohit Sharma as a leader and quality with the bat, which came to the fore in the first few strides of his captaincy. Ashwin always speaks in admiration of technically correct and fearless cricketers; he appreciated Rohit in combination with this, complimenting his class and face to take on the bowlers, be it any situation in the game.
“One thing that really came out for me during the Sri Lankan series was the batting of Rohit Sharma,”Ravichandran Ashwin said in a video on his YouTube channel. “Under no matter what circumstances, Rohit plays fearlessly. Whenever Rohit is on the field, it’s a great message to his opponents—’I’m here to dominate’. Being a batsman, at the moment, Rohit is in a class of his own.”

Ravichandran Ashwin, himself, was a busy cricketer since he played a key part in the Dindigul Dragons’ winning efforts for the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024. He mentioned that Rohit’s dynamism was key, which helped him march smoothly on the spin-friendly tracks of Sri Lanka.
Speaking to Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit can easily adjust and play different shots—square cuts, sweeps, reverse sweeps, or charge down to the track against the pace. There were mainly two reasons due to which he was able to get runs on this difficult surface at R. Premadasa Stadium at Colombo. Even most of the other batsmen got bogged down.
“There is a lot of range in a Rohit Sharma batting, from a sweep to a reverse sweep and even stepping out to fast bowlers,” said Ravichandran Ashwin. “In fact, it’s the options and the fact that he’s able to churn out and effect all these options that he does it so brutally and in such a dominant manner, especially on very tricky wickets.”

The ODIs are now over till next January when England makes a visit for a three-match series. The time till then would give this team an ample opportunity to work out its shortcomings, surely their efforts for the Champions Trophy to be held next February will have better luck with similarly slow pitches.
So far as Rohit Sharma is concerned, not much of a big change will be expected in his style of play. However, fans and critics do expect him to carry on from where he left off, playing in his in-born aggressive way, across formats that have brought him over lots of success and admiration.
