The case, enrolled at Adabor Police Station here in Dhaka, listed Shakib as the 28th accused and popular Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed as the 55th accused. Both Shakib and Ahmed were earlier associated with the Awami League and were Members of Parliament in the parliament.

The case also names former Premier Sheikh Hasina and 154 others. Besides, 400-500 unknown people have also been charged, making the matter even more serious.

Meanwhile, the BCB has announced the name of former captain Faruque Ahmed as its new chief after Nazmul Hassan’s resignation. He is a close aide of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and had been heading BCB since 2012. He also served as sports minister during Hasina’s 15-year tenure.

His resignation was confirmed by the chief executive officer of BCB, Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, who said that the “wish of Nazmul” to step down was accepted. Faruque Ahmed, who briefly led Bangladesh in the 1994 ICC Trophy and represented Bangladesh in seven ODIs, is now the BCB president.

The directors of the board elected him to open a new chapter in Bangladeshi cricket. Faruque, also the national chief selector from 2005 to 2014, retired from international cricket after the 1999 World Cup.
