The day’s play of the ongoing second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was getting upstaged by an unexpected and hilarious moment. Pakistan, after having been struggling in their second innings, had managed mere 172 runs on the board to give Bangladesh the requisite target of 185 runs to win the match and clean sweep the two-match series.
In fact, amid all the tension, a comical incident occurred when Pakistan’s spinner Abrar Ahmed, batting at No. 10, started running towards the crease as if to save himself from being ‘timed out’. Everybody, including the Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan, burst into fits of laughter as they saw Abrar hurry towards the wicket. This light-hearted moment has gone viral on social media.

Shakib, billed as Bangladesh’s finest cricketer, couldn’t help but burst into a chuckle over it. Ironically, Shakib had famously timed out Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews during a World Cup game against them in Delhi last year, the first time in 146 years of international cricket that a batsman had been dismissed for taking more than two minutes to take strike.

As far as the match is concerned, Pakistan is staring at a series loss, having suffered a crushing 10-wicket defeat in the opening Test. An early advantage of a slender 12-run lead in the first innings – after dismissing Bangladesh for 262 – was blown away in the second innings as Pakistan failed to compile a sizeable total.

Top-scoring for Pakistan was the all-rounder Salman Agha, who remained not-out on 47 off 71 balls, while Mohammad Rizwan chipped in with 43. For Pakistan, their former skipper Babar Azam continued to struggle, getting dismissed by Nahid Rana, after scoring just 11 runs. That stretched Babar’s lean patch to 16 Test innings without a fifty, adding to the woes of Pakistan.
