Pacers Akash Deep played an important innings in the opening match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 when he contributed with a knock of 43 runs off 42 balls. His innings was the most significant one considering India A struggled badly, especially after KL Rahul’s dismissal. When the match was slipping out of favour, Akash got into an aggressive mood and launched a counter-attack.

His attacking intent was fulfilled as he slammed three boundaries and four sixes during his innings, the photos and videos of which he showed on Instagram. One of those brilliant moments captured was Akash hitting Mukesh Kumar for a boundary. He actually had expert timing as the ball flew over mid-on.

Well, Mukesh had dismissed Akash previously in this match and, seeing the video, reacted with a little dig at Akash to put up the footage of his dismissal too. “Bhai out wali v dal de yar,” commented Mukesh, adding some banter to the social media interaction.

Another experienced pacer, who shared the new ball with Mukesh was the tall pacer Navdeep Saini. Saini also commented on Akash’s post. Lanky pacer jokingly said that they had ready-ed the video of getting out of Akash, but he did not forget to appreciate his overall performance in the match. “Teri video bhi tyaar h bhai BTW. Well played,” Saini wrote, appreciating Akash’s fine efforts.

Apart from his batting, Akash Deep had an influential role with the ball, picking up four wickets in the first innings and five in the second against India A. An exceptional show got him rewarded with the Indian squad call-up for the two-match Test series to take on Bangladesh.

While Akash has joined the team camp in Chennai, it is not sure whether he will be picked for the first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are going to be the lead pacers.

Akash, meanwhile, had been making his Test debut earlier this year against England, coming on in the fourth Test in Ranchi following Bumrah’s workload management and taking three wickets in the first innings of that game before not bowling in the second or featuring in the fifth Test in Dharamshala.
