Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal produced a spellbinding spell to send back Wayne Madsen, as solid as a boulder on 47 for the fall, during the first innings of their Division Two match against Northamptonshire. Chahal had already picked up his maiden wicket by dismissing Aneurin Donald in the 52nd over and was looking in rhythm here.
In the 14th over of his spell, he produced a beauty to dismiss the 40-year-old Madsen. Pitched on the leg stump, it turned sharply. The whole thing was a complete deceit for Madsen as his bat missed the line. The ball clipped the off stump. The celebration that followed was one of collective joy as the wicketkeeper Lewis McManus and Chahal’s fellow Indian teammate Prithvi Shaw joined in on the excitement.

That over was incredibly special, as it indeed was Yuzvendra Chahal’s first maiden of the match, and another important wicket fell to the penultimate ball. He finished the innings off with the remarkable figures of 16.3 overs, 2 maidens, 45 runs conceded, and a five-wicket haul to play an extremely vital role in putting his side in control.

That wasn’t all about Yuzvendra Chahal’s dominance. Chasing 266 for victory, Derbyshire found him once again coming to Northamptonshire’s rescue and bowling a spell that was as devastating as the previous one. Bowling just 1.3 overs more, Chahal picked four more wickets to give his team a thumping 133-run win.

While Yuzvendra Chahal shone with the ball, their key hope in Madsen of Derbyshire could only watch as wickets fell around him. On the other side of matters, Prithvi Shaw had an underwhelming match for Northamptonshire, failing with the bat in both innings, managing just 4 and 2 runs, respectively.
