India’s “Kohinoor” Jasprit Bumrah delivered an early blow to Bangladesh on Day 2 of the first Test in Chennai, dismissing opener Shadman Islam for just 2 runs. Bumrah, widely regarded as one of the finest pacers in world cricket, left Shadman completely baffled with a delivery that was expected to swing away. Instead, it cut back sharply, catching the batter off guard.

Facing the final ball of Bumrah’s first over, Shadman made a miscalculated decision to leave the ball, thinking it would sail past the stumps. What unfolded, however, was quite the opposite. Bumrah’s brilliant delivery nipped back in, hitting the top of off-stump, leaving Shadman stunned and the Indian team elated. It was a masterclass in seam bowling, with Bumrah altering his angle for the last ball, which seemed to confuse the batter, resulting in the early breakthrough.

This wicket added to the momentum India had built, thanks to the outstanding efforts of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. India, resuming the day at 339/6, managed to post a competitive total of 376. Jadeja was the first to depart on Day 2, falling for 86 after adding no further runs to his overnight score.

Ashwin, who had played a vital century knock, added 11 more runs before being dismissed for 113 by Taskin Ahmed. Bangladesh’s pacers, led by Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed, made a strong statement with the ball.
