KL Rahul showcased his sharp fielding skills on Saturday (September 21) with a brilliant diving catch to dismiss Mushfiqur Rahim in Bangladesh’s second innings of the ongoing first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. With India in a dominant position, Rahim’s wicket was crucial to prevent any potential resurgence from the visitors.

The experienced Bangladesh batter, known for his 191-run knock in a recent Test against Pakistan, was expected to be a key player. However, his stay at the crease was short-lived, thanks to KL Rahul’s athleticism. Mushfiqur Rahim fell in the 34th over, bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s spin ace.

Attempting to take on Ashwin, Rahim advanced down the pitch for an aggressive drive but failed to keep the ball grounded, sending it towards mid-on. The shot seemed safe, as the ball was short of KL Rahul. But Rahul timed his dive to perfection, plucking the ball from near the turf in an outstanding display of reflexes. Rahim’s innings ended at 13 runs from 11 balls, leaving Bangladesh struggling in their chase.

By the close of play on day three, Bangladesh were 158/4, facing the daunting task of chasing 515 runs. The umpires called off play early due to poor light, leaving Najmul Hossain Shanto, unbeaten on 51, and Shakib Al Hasan at the crease.
