The Irani Cup 2024 clash is between Mumbai and the Rest of India; though, the Mumbai Cricket Association has yet to announce its complete list of players in the four-day game. Shreyas Iyer, and Shardul Thakur are confirmed by India internationals as they go to play for the reigning Ranji Trophy champions. The much-awaited meeting is to be held at Lucknow from 1st to 5th October 2024, wherein it has been said that Ajinkya Rahane will lead the team of Mumbai.

The latter had led their side to their record 42nd Ranji Trophy title in the 2023-24 season by defeating Vidarbha in the final. Shreyas Iyer will look to convert this game into a vital opportunity to make his case for a return to the Indian national team. He was not included in the Bangladesh series, but he might look forward to using the Irani Cup to re-establish his form and fitness.

It is Iyer, who led India D through the just-concluded Duleep Trophy. The talented Mumbai batter last played for India in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he got into a dry phase and would be itching to rediscover his touch.

While Shardul Thakur’s services are returning to the den of Mumbai, that will be great support for them. The all-rounder from Mumbai is going through his rehab process for an ankle injury since June but confirmed that he will be available for MCA. He will join hands with Mumbai and add depth to bowling as well as to the lower-middle order.

The probable names for the MCA are going to be announced as the full squad on September 24, which will consist of vice-captain Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, and Musheer Khan. They last played in the Irani Cup during the season of 2015-16 and may look forward to ending a wait that has been over two complete decades-long, last winning it back in 1997-98.
