Ishan Kishan has made a remarkable return to form after being left out of the BCCI’s central contract earlier this year. The dynamic wicketkeeper-batter was sidelined due to his unavailability during the domestic season. However, Kishan silenced his critics by putting up stellar performances in the Buchi Babu pre-season tournament and the recently concluded Duleep Trophy, scoring crucial centuries in both competitions.
His resurgence has sparked talks of a potential comeback to the Indian national team. Several reports suggest that Kishan could be in line for a spot in the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, especially with rumours that Rishabh Pant may be rested for the series. If Pant sits out, it could open the door for other wicketkeeper-batters like Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson.

Sanju Samson, who was part of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies, remains a strong candidate for the T20I matches. However, in Tests, Dhruv Jurel is currently the preferred backup to Pant, which might keep Kishan out of the playing XI for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand.

In the meantime, Ishan Kishan has been named in the squad for the Irani Cup 2024, where he will represent the Rest of India in a match against Mumbai, scheduled from October 1 to 5 in Lucknow. Following this, the T20I series against Bangladesh will take place between October 6 and 12, giving Kishan another opportunity to showcase his talent on the big stage.

The Bihar-born cricketer last played for India in a T20I against Australia in November 2023. In Tests, he has only featured twice, with his last appearance being against the West Indies in Port of Spain in July 2023. Kishan will be eager to capitalize on any opportunities that come his way in the near future.
