Ravichandran Ashwin once again showcased his brilliance, putting India in control during the second Test against Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. India, aiming for an early breakthrough, got exactly that with Ashwin’s impactful bowling. Opening the attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Ashwin gave India the perfect start by dismissing Bangladesh opener Zakir Hasan in the eighth over for just 10 runs.

Ashwin wasn’t done yet. In his very next over, he struck again, this time removing nightwatchman Hasan Mahmud. It was classic Ashwin—sharp, precise, and devastating. Bowling an off-spinner right on the stumps, Ashwin tempted Mahmud into a reckless shot.

The Bangladesh pacer, attempting to play across the line, missed completely as the ball spun sharply and crashed into the stumps. Mahmud’s brief stay at the crease ended with just 4 runs from 9 balls. With Bangladesh reeling at 26/2, Mominul Haque joined Shadman Islam to steady the innings.

 

The duo will have the tough task of continuing on the fifth and final day, with their side still trailing India’s first-innings lead by 26 runs. The Test match had earlier resumed after two days of no play due to rain.

Bangladesh, starting at 107/3, collapsed from a promising 224/6 to being bowled out for 233, with Mominul Haque’s unbeaten 107 being the only bright spot for the visitors. India, in response, declared their innings at 285/9 after just 34.4 overs.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a blistering start, accumulating 51 runs in only 3 overs, setting multiple records for the fastest 50, 100, 150, and 200 in Tests. Jaiswal top-scored with 72 off 51 balls, while KL Rahul contributed a quickfire 68 off 43 balls. For Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up four wickets each.
