Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali believes that veteran batter Mohammad Yousuf resigned from Pakistan’s selection committee due to a disagreement with the team’s red-ball coach Jason Gillespie as well. Yousuf quit his post on Sunday, September 29, citing personal reasons.
Speaking in his latest YouTube video, Basit added that Yousuf’s resignation wasn’t due to personal reasons. He also added that Gillespie
may have played a role in the 50-year-old’s exit as well.

He said, “Asad Shafique is the only selector left now and I think he should be removed as well. It seems like Jason Gillespie and Company had some issues with Mohammad Yousuf, which is why he has resigned. He tweeted to announce that he has resigned as Pakistan’s selector due to personal reasons. If there are any personal reasons, he should have also resigned from other positions. I may be wrong but I feel Yousuf could be the batting coach for the England series. He is a big name and should be appointed as the batting coach.”

However, Mohammad Yousuf resigned from his post just six months after his appointment as well. During his tenure, the side faced a group-stage exit in the 2024 T20 World Cup and lost their maiden Test series against Bangladesh as well. While announcing his resignation, Mohammad Yousuf mentioned that it was an honour to be part of Pakistan’s selection committee as well.

Yousuf wrote on X: “I announce my resignation as a selector for the Pakistan cricket team due to personal reasons. Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket. I have immense faith in the talent and spirit of our players, and Wish our team all the best as they continue to strive for greatness.”

Meanwhile, Basit Ali also opined that Kanpur should not be allowed to host Test matches in the future as the second Test between India vs Bangladesh witnessed three days without play.

“The BCCI should ban Kanpur from hosting Test matches. This match ending in a draw will have an impact on India’s chances of making it to the WTC final. They won’t understand it now as everyone thinks that India will win all three Tests against New Zealand. There could be a problem for India if one of those matches ends in a draw. Kanpur doesn’t deserve to host a Test match. Before the start of the Test, the head of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association made big claims like the pitch and ground are fantastic and they have a very good system in place. Everything got exposed. It hasn’t rained since last night and they still couldn’t dry the ground. It’s surprising to see something like this in India,” he concluded.
