The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 1, as Bangladesh resumed play at 26/2, with Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque at the crease, trying to fend off India’s bowling attack.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who had been in terrific form throughout the series, opened the bowling for India on the final day. The veteran off-spinner didn’t take long to make an impact, striking in just the third over of the day. Ashwin’s field placement had been adjusted, with KL KL Rahul positioned at leg-slip, a move that would pay off almost immediately.

On the third delivery of the 14th over, Mominul Haque, who had played a gritty innings in the first innings with a century to his name, attempted a sweep shot, a shot that had previously brought him success. However, this time, he misjudged the ball’s trajectory, failing to make proper contact.

 

The ball took a sharp turn, catching the top edge of Mominul’s bat and flying towards leg-slip, where KL Rahul was perfectly positioned. Rahul reacted swiftly, diving low to his right to take a spectacular catch, sending Mominul back to the pavilion for just 2 runs off 8 balls. The dismissal left Bangladesh reeling at 36/3, a massive blow to their hopes of salvaging the game.
