Former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik heaped praise on captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir, predicting a “glorious era” for Indian cricket under their leadership. Karthik believes that their strong intent to win every match will bring significant success to the team.
Gambhir took over as head coach following Rahul Dravid’s successful tenure, which ended after India’s T20 World Cup victory in 2024. He started his stint with a bang, leading India to a 3-0 win in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. However, the team faced challenges in the following ODI series, losing 0-2 in unfamiliar away conditions.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20I cricket after the World Cup, continued his captaincy in red-ball cricket alongside Gambhir for the first time in the Bangladesh series. India dominated the series, winning the first Test by 280 runs and securing a seven-wicket victory in the second match in Kanpur.

During a discussion on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik shared his optimism about the future of Indian cricket but tempered expectations, emphasizing the difficulty of maintaining such aggressive performances over a long period. He noted that while the current approach is thrilling, it may not be sustainable in the long run.
“It’s a bit unrealistic to expect the team to keep performing like this consistently,” Dinesh Karthik remarked. “This level of intensity isn’t healthy over long periods. But the intent to win—that’s key, and it was great to see today.”

Dinesh Karthik was particularly impressed with Rohit Sharma’s leadership. He pointed out how Sharma leads by example, setting the tone for the team with his aggressive mindset. He highlighted Rohit’s decision to declare early and take charge by hitting a six off the first ball, signalling the team’s commitment to pushing for a result.

“That was a statement,” Dinesh Karthik said. “It’s going to be a great era with Gambhir and Rohit at the helm, and their desire to win every match is the right mindset.”
In the second Test in Kanpur, India bowled Bangladesh out for 233 and took a bold approach with the bat, scoring 285 runs in just 34.4 overs. Despite rain disrupting two days of play, India dismissed Bangladesh for 146 in their second innings and chased down the 95-run target comfortably, sealing a 2-0 series win.
