On Tuesday (October 1), Rohit Sharma led Team India to a remarkable 7-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second Test at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. Despite more than two days of lost play due to rain, India managed to secure a clean sweep in the two-match series, further asserting their dominance in the World Test Championship.
Bangladesh resumed Day 5 at 26/2, but it didn’t take long for India to seize control. Mominul Haque was dismissed in just the third over of the day by Ravichandran Ashwin. However, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shadman Islam gave India a brief scare, putting together a solid 50-plus stand for the fourth wicket. Bangladesh, at one point, seemed poised to challenge India’s bowling attack, with hopes of setting a competitive target.

However, the breakthrough came when Ravindra Jadeja clean-bowled Shanto, and from there, the visitors collapsed. Bangladesh crumbled from 91/3 to 94/7 in no time. A late resistance from Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 37 runs, helped his team to a modest total of 146. Indian bowlers were in top form, with Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jadeja each grabbing three wickets.

Chasing a target of 95 runs, India wrapped up the game in just 18 overs. Although Rohit Sharma (8) and Shubman Gill (6) fell early, Yashasvi Jaiswal (51) and Virat Kohli (29*) combined for a 58-run partnership that all but sealed the victory. After Jaiswal’s departure, Rishabh Pant joined Kohli to finish the job.

Post-match, in a heartwarming gesture, Rohit continued India’s tradition of handing the trophy to the newest or youngest player. After receiving the trophy from BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, Rohit passed it to Akash Deep, celebrating his contributions to the series.
Akash Deep, who made his Test debut against England earlier this year, was impressive in this series, picking up five wickets in two matches. With the Test series completed, India and Bangladesh will now face off in a three-match T20I series starting on October 6.
